Wasara Paper Tableware

Sometimes the best discoveries are the ones perchance… I have no idea where I found this one in particular, but isn’t showing and sharing things with other people, the reason why we all write blogs so passionately? I believe so. What you see above is Wasara, a Japanese company that produces paper tableware.

Overly delicate, sinuous and elegant, this range of ephemeral plates and bowls flows gracefully over the table: the nature of paper tableware is in itself a one time only, however Wasara creates these collection using bamboo and sugarcane waste (bagasse), making their collection completely environmentally-friendly. As they say, “Earth to Earth”…

I couldn’t find a retailer in Australia, but there is a New Zealand distributor, named Epicure Trading… maybe they can help!

hardtofind

Living in Sydney is wonderful but it does have one small downside… As I am not 100% sure this is going to be home for good, I don’t feel that I can buy home ware and furniture as much as I would if I had my own place. I dream about my future home, wherever and whenever that is going to be but for now I am just talking about everything I would buy. This made my discovery of hardtofind joyfully painful!

hardtofind is a lovely website, put together by two very clever ladies, Trudi and Erica, with great taste and a keen eye for unique and boutique items. So let’s talk about what I want on my list, shall we? it also has wonderful ideas for your Christmas Shopping!

Where to start? Well, scented candles from Kobo I think are an absolute must. They are gorgeous little environmentally friendly candles with the most unusual scents like Green Pearl Jasmine or Portuguese Olive Blossom… you cannot resist them!

And then you can’t really ignore this crochet Blanket by Lilly and Lolly with matching cushion… they are supposed to be for kids, but I want them!

Then we also have this perfect Dandi chopping board, which is exactly what you need to create your festive table, and also Anne Black decorations, in handmade porcelain. Oh, and the ones at the top are from Chez Moi, beautifully manufactured eco-friendly cushions your couch is dying to have for Christmas.

And you… what is your Christmas Shopping list?

Amelie and Mimou

After weeks of craziness I am finally going back to my normal routine… reading blogs and magazine is one of them, and considering my google reader is exploding of news I haven’t had the time to ready, a slightly different approach was needed. Instead of going through each news, I started looking at the blogs I know would never disappoint me. Decor8 is one of them!

To me, the highlight of the last few weeks was Mimou working with Amelie Hegardt. One step at the time: Mimou is a Swedish company, they make beautiful bedlinen, cushions, wallpaper and accessories. For the latest 2010/2011 collection, they worked together with the talented Amelie, well known for her bleeding ink and splashes of water colour. The result is simply breathtaking.

What I particularly adore in their latest collection is the love transpiring from every single picture, and that is probably why I would buy their products. Doesn’t make you feel better when you know, or feel, that behind something you like or want there is a lot more than just industrial and mechanic work? Like someone really cares about it, devotes time, effort and passion to create something special… To me, it makes a huge difference and I truly hope I’m not alone!

African Safari… on a cushion!

I believe that most of our creativity and inspiration come by watching, observing and understanding what is around us. Not everyone can, not everyone is able to convey a message into what has created.

Heather Moore is the exquisite designer behind Skinny LaMinx, the lovely creations you see here. She lives in Cape Town and maybe you can see, as well I do, how much the surrounding environment and wildlife seem to have influenced her work with little pieces of Africa trying to escape each cushion, tea towel, armchair and fabric.

Their simplicity is what makes them special, likeable and easy to imagine in every room. The full collection is available on Etsy, and from Etsy it can get wherever you are.
