Lovely Mud

mud2.jpg

This is a brand everyone should know about… well, there are many I want to show you, just one at a time!
Mud Australia started in 1995 and they create the most delicate, beautiful, divine porcelain in this country.

Each piece is handmade by professional and amateur ceramicists, designed to last and manufactured using the best materials available. The end result is a product that perfectly combines a minimalist aesthetic with a clearly hand made finish, providing a soulful alternative to mass produced & highly manufactured ceramic design.

Aren’t they gorgeous?! I am in love with the big platters… For you in Australia, there are a number of stockist and you can find more information on the brand here. For you in Italy… mmmh, it seems to be available only from one place. Not sure though, let me know if you need more information.

Colour Inspiration: Red

This is not only a red inspiration but also a fantastic work from Scott Weston. And you may recognise the lovely Mademoiselle armchair, created by Philippe Starck for Kartell. This time, covered with Missoni fabric and design.

For the Love of Bike

I miss my bike… if I weren’t living in a huge city like Sydney, with a massive bridge in the middle and where distances are always more than you can possibly imagine, I would get one straight away. With a wicker basket, or maybe a design based one, like the green here below from Design House Stockholm.

The title of today’s post is from a lovely blog I recently discovered, entirtely dedicated to the world of bicycle. There is also a worldwide network named Cycle Chic (the original site is from Copenhagen) that can keep you up to date with events, bicycle news, brands and more. Unfortunately, neither Australia, nor Italy have one… we should start one ourselves! I then found beautiful websites with amazing bicycles, here some brand: Pashley, Abici, Linus… All of them with a retro style, which is the one I adore!

Think about it: a bike is not necessarily just a vehicle and can be something fashionable. You can use them for photoshoot, as an alternative for your wedding to the usual Limousine, or to have a different Sunday with your family and friends. Just fill your baskets with cheese, fruit, good wine… and off you go!

Velux – A tunnel of light

tubo_solar1.jpg

Tunnel of light… what would this be? It is a new project, designed by renowned Ross Lovegrove for the notable Italian brand Velux, for sixty years leading the way in producing natural light installation.

How does it work? Simple: the tunnel direct solar rays from your rooftop through a tunnel, flowing all the way to your space. The new diffuser is a reccomended add-on designed to give beautiful reflectance to any room while allowing the user to adjust light direction.

The result: beautiful natural light will be widely spread even in those spaces where it is impossible to have a window… or during rainy days!

Presented at Salone Internazionale del Mobile 2010, Solar Tunnel by Velux is a system combining design, innovation technology and environment sustainability.

Ps. Design Boom interviewed Ross Lovegrove on their site, it is very interesting!

Chocolate Mousse Cake

moussecake.jpg

Sometimes you need a little treat… This is one of my favourite cakes, to bake and to eat. It’s easy to do, doesn’t take too long and no matter what, it is always a great success!

From Ms Nigella Lawson, enjoy this little piece of heaven!

Ingredients:

300gr dark chocolate
50gr milk chocolate
175gr unsalted butter
8 large eggs, separated
100gr light brown sugar
100gr caster sugar
1 tablespoon vanilla extract
1 pinch of salt

Method:

Preheat the oven at 190°C. Melt chocolate and butter in a double boiler, or bain-marie. Make sure the bowl doesn’t touch the water, when melted put on a side to cool down. Keep the water covered and gently boiling.
In another bowl beat egg yolks and sugar, until light and smooth then add to the melted chocolate.
Whisk the egg whites in a large bowl until soft peaks form and gently fold into the mixture, going from the bottom to the top until smooth.
This is an Italian treat: apply a thin layer of butter on the loose base round cake tin (25cm) and dust with flour. Then pour the cake batter into the tin which you have placed into a larger roasted tin half filled with water.
Gently put into the oven and bake for 50minutes to an hour. Outside should look cooked and dry, but inside should be of a luscious, thick mousse consistence. Let it cool completely before releasing from the tin.
Dust with icing sugar, then enjoy, enjoy and enjoy!!!
